It adds marks on top of your pages; it doesn\u2019t encrypt them, hide them, or stop anyone opening the file. If the stamp overpowers the body text, drop the opacity a notch rather than the size, so the label still spans the page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"security\">A watermark deters, it doesn\u2019t secure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the honest part, and xconvert\u2019s own tool says so out loud: asked \u201cIs the watermark removable?\u201d, the page answers <strong>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/strong> A text watermark is content painted on top of your pages \u2014 and anything that can be added can be taken away. Someone can edit it out, cover it, or simply <strong>screenshot each page<\/strong> and rebuild a clean PDF. Document-security specialists put it bluntly: users \u201ccan just as easily remove these watermarks as add them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So treat a watermark as a <strong>social and visual deterrent<\/strong> \u2014 it makes misuse obvious and reminds people of a document\u2019s status \u2014 not as protection. If a file genuinely must be kept from the wrong hands, that\u2019s a different mechanism entirely: <strong>encryption<\/strong>. Adobe\u2019s PDF security works by adding a <strong>Document Open password<\/strong> (the file won\u2019t open without it) and\/or a <strong>Permissions password<\/strong> that restricts printing, editing and copying \u2014 the contents are actually encrypted, not merely overprinted.
