Adobe\u2019s open DNG (Digital Negative) format was created as a standardized, non-proprietary RAW container to escape this fragmentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"extensions\">Which extension belongs to which camera<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Getting the brand-to-extension mapping right matters, because you select files by extension and you\u2019ll mislabel folders if you guess. If you\u2019re unsure which one your camera produces, the extension is printed on the file itself \u2014 sort a folder by type and you\u2019ll see it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"why-jpg\">Why convert RAW to JPG at all<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">RAW is the right format for <em>editing and archiving<\/em> and the wrong format for <em>sharing<\/em>. With JPEG you can also set a quality level.<\/li><li>Pick a destination and click <strong>Save<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Apple\u2019s documentation states this multi-file path explicitly: \u201cTo convert more than one image file at a time, open the files in one window, select them in that window\u2019s sidebar, then follow the steps above.\u201d That makes Preview a genuine free batch route on macOS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One caveat: community reports describe a long-standing Preview bug where, on large selections, only the first several images convert correctly and the rest are saved with the wrong contents or suffix \u2014 so spot-check the outputs after a big batch.
