ODD to MOV Converter

.odd is an uncommon extension that several unrelated programs use, so the first step is confirming which kind of file you actually have. This page rasterizes an ODD file's page or image content and holds that single still inside a MOV video for a duration you choose — there is no motion and no audio, just one frozen frame in an Apple QuickTime container. If your file is an OpenDocument Drawing, that format uses the .odg extension, not .odd; see the ODG to MOV converter instead.

What a .odd File Might Be

There is no single owner of the .odd extension. Independent file-extension registries list it against several programs that have nothing to do with each other, so confirm the source application before converting. Some SEO sites mislabel .odd as "OpenDocument Drawing" — that is wrong; the OpenDocument standard reserves .odg for drawings.

Reported use Category Notes
Coby Voice Recorder data Audio Recorded by some Coby voice recorders; their bundled Voice Manager software exports to WAV
TEI / "ODD" source Markup "One Document Does it All" — an XML customization file used in Text Encoding Initiative projects
Oracle / OData diagram Database A data-model or OData diagram file used by tools like the OData Diagrammer
Amstrad CPC image (Recoil) Image A retro raster image format read by the Recoil graphics tool

.odd is not part of the OpenDocument standard — OpenDocument Drawing files use .odg, spreadsheets .ods, and text .odt (the family is maintained by OASIS and published as ISO/IEC 26300). This converter can only produce a meaningful video if the ODD holds image or page content it can render into a picture; a pure audio, markup, or database .odd has nothing to rasterize and will fail or come out blank.

MOV Format at a Glance

Property Value
Developer Apple Inc. (QuickTime File Format)
Released 1991; public specification published 2001
File extension .mov (also .qt)
Container Time-based multimedia container holding video, audio, and text tracks
Relation to MP4 ISO used the QuickTime format as the basis for the MPEG-4 (MP4) file format, so the two share a structure and can carry the same codecs
Default codec here H.264 video, in a yuv420p pixel format for broad QuickTime/player compatibility
Best for Apple and pro-video workflows (Final Cut, QuickTime Player, macOS/iOS)

Because your source is a single still, the resulting MOV is one motionless frame repeated for the length you set — useful as a title card, a placeholder clip, a slate before footage, or a still that needs to drop straight into a MOV-based editing timeline. If you only need a flat picture rather than a video, convert ODD to JPEG instead.

How to Convert ODD to MOV

  1. Upload Your ODD File: Drag and drop your file onto the page or click "+ Add Files" to choose it from your device. You can queue several stills; use the Merge strategy control to combine them into one MOV or output a separate video per image.
  2. Set the Duration: Open Advanced Options and pick a value in the Duration dropdown — it defaults to 5 seconds per frame and ranges from a single frame (1/60s) up to 10 seconds. This is how long your still is held on screen in the finished clip.
  3. Choose Background Color and Size: The Background Color (default Black) fills any letterbox area if the still does not match the video frame's shape; under Video resolution, keep the original size, pick a Preset Resolution, or set a Fixed Resolution.
  4. Convert and Download: Confirm the File extension is MOV, click Convert, and download the result. No sign-up, no watermark.

Files are uploaded over an encrypted connection, processed on our servers, and deleted automatically a few hours after conversion — never shared or made public.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my ODD to MOV output just a frozen image with no movement?

That is expected, not a fault. Your source is a single still, so the tool holds one rasterized frame for the Duration you set — there is no second image to animate and no audio track. If you wanted motion, you would need a sequence of images (upload several and pick "Merge images" under the Merge strategy) or actual video source, not a single ODD page.

Is .odd the same as an OpenDocument Drawing?

No. OpenDocument Drawing uses the .odg extension, not .odd. Some converters and SEO pages mislabel .odd as "OpenDocument Drawing," but the OpenDocument family (maintained by OASIS as ISO/IEC 26300) reserves .odt, .ods, .odp, and .odg — there is no .odd in it. If you meant a LibreOffice or OpenOffice drawing, use the ODG to MOV converter instead.

How long should I set the Duration?

It depends on the use. For a slate or title card before footage, 3-5 seconds is typical; for a placeholder loop, pick something longer. The dropdown goes from one frame (1/60 of a second) up to 10 seconds per image, defaulting to 5. Longer durations make a larger file because the encoder repeats the same frame for more time.

Will the MOV have any sound?

No. A still image carries no audio, so the output MOV is silent. If you need a soundtrack, convert the still here first, then add audio in a video editor, or mux an audio track onto the clip separately — this tool does not attach audio to an image-sourced video.

Why MOV instead of MP4 for a still image?

Choose MOV when your destination is an Apple or pro-video pipeline — QuickTime Player, Final Cut Pro, or a macOS/iOS workflow that expects .mov. Because ISO based the MP4 file format on Apple's QuickTime format, the two are structurally close and carry the same H.264 video, so if your target is the web or a phone, convert ODD to MP4 is the more widely supported pick.

Why does my MOV have black bars around the picture?

The still is centered inside the chosen video frame, and any area it does not cover is filled with the Background Color, which defaults to Black. If your image is portrait or square but the video frame is widescreen, you will see bars on the sides. Change the Background Color to match your image's edges, or set the Video resolution to a shape closer to the source to reduce the padding.

What does xconvert do with my file after the conversion?

Your ODD is uploaded over an encrypted connection, rendered to a MOV on our servers, and then deleted automatically a few hours after the conversion finishes. In our testing the download is ready in a few seconds for a single still, and nothing you upload is shared or made public — there is no sign-up and no watermark on the output.
