Frequently Asked Questions

Will converting to OGG improve the sound quality of my 3GPP recording?

No. AMR-NB audio in 3GPP files is captured at 4.75-12.2 kbps with an 8 kHz sample rate — that's a lossy, voice-optimized signal. Re-encoding to a higher Vorbis bitrate preserves what's there but cannot reconstruct frequencies AMR threw away. Pick a Vorbis bitrate that matches the source: 64-96 kbps is plenty for AMR-NB, 96-128 kbps for AMR-WB.

What's the difference between Vorbis and Opus inside an OGG container?
