An APNG (animated PNG) is a single file holding many frames — JPEG holds exactly one still image. This tool extracts one frame from the animation and saves it as a JPEG: by default the first frame (the same frame any PNG viewer falls back to), or a specific frame you choose. JPEG is lossy and has no alpha channel, so any transparency in the APNG is flattened onto a solid background. If you need transparency or a lossless still, grab a PNG instead. How to Convert APNG to JPEG

3. Resize or Set a Background (Optional): Use Resolution Percentage, a Preset Resolution, or Width × Height to scale the still down; because JPEG can't store transparency, transparent pixels are composited onto a solid background (white by default).

Which frame of the animation becomes the JPEG?

By default, the first frame. In an APNG the first frame is stored as a normal PNG stream — it's the exact image any non-animation viewer shows as a fallback — so it's the natural "cover" still. If you want a different moment, open Frame Selection and pick Specific Frame before converting.

What happens to the transparent parts of my APNG?

JPEG has no alpha channel, so transparency can't survive the conversion. Transparent and semi-transparent pixels are composited onto a solid background (white by default) and baked into the image. If keeping transparency matters, convert to PNG instead, which preserves APNG's full 8-bit alpha.

Will I lose quality converting APNG to JPEG?

Two things happen. APNG frames are lossless PNG data; JPEG re-encodes them with lossy DCT compression, which can soften sharp edges and add faint ringing artifacts around text and lines. In our testing, a flat-color UI frame showed visible edge fringing at low quality presets but looked clean at Very High; photographic frames held up well even at medium quality. Keep the preset high for graphics-heavy frames.

Can I turn the whole animation into multiple JPEGs at once?

This converter outputs a single still per file. To split every frame of an APNG into a separate image, you'd use a frame-extraction tool rather than a format converter — pick the frames you want as individual stills. For a single representative still, the first frame (or a chosen Specific Frame) is the usual pick.

Is anything kept on your servers after I convert?
