This tool re-encodes a DivX video (MPEG-4 ASP, usually inside an AVI file) into an SWF Flash movie — a Flash-video stream wrapped in Adobe's Shockwave Flash container. Be aware this is a legacy conversion: Adobe stopped supporting Flash Player on December 31, 2020, and blocked Flash content from running on January 12, 2021, so an SWF will not play in any current browser. It is useful only for old Flash projectors, authoring tools, or archival workflows that still expect SWF. If you just want a video that plays everywhere today, convert DivX to MP4 instead.

DivX and SWF use different video codecs (MPEG-4 ASP vs Flash video), so the file has to be decoded and re-encoded rather than simply re-wrapped. That means one round of generation loss. Keep your original DivX file if you may need a higher-quality master later, and use the highest Quality Preset if visual fidelity matters more than file size.
Almost no one needs SWF for playback anymore — Adobe ended Flash Player support on December 31, 2020. The remaining real uses are feeding an old Flash projector, importing footage into legacy Flash/Animate authoring projects, or matching an archived asset pipeline that still expects .swf. For any modern viewing, DivX to MP4 is the right choice.
No current mainstream browser plays SWF, because Flash Player is retired. Standalone options include the open-source Ruffle emulator (limited support for embedded video), the standalone Flash projector if you still have it, and VLC for some simple files. Interactive ActionScript SWFs often will not run reliably anywhere today.

Pick MP4 unless a specific legacy tool requires SWF. MP4 with H.264 plays natively in every modern browser and on phones, smart TVs, and editors. SWF only makes sense when you are targeting old Flash software. You can run DivX to MP4 for the universal option or SWF to MP4 to rescue content that is already in SWF.
