No — conversion cannot add detail that was never recorded. Most FLV files were encoded with older Sorenson Spark or VP6 codecs at modest bitrates for web streaming, so the source quality is the ceiling. Moving to MOV with an H.264 track preserves what's there in a modern, editable wrapper; it does not upscale or sharpen the original footage.
QuickTime Player and Final Cut Pro never natively supported the FLV container, and after Adobe's Flash Player end-of-life on December 31, 2020, the format lost its last mainstream playback path. Rewrapping the clip as MOV with an H.264 video track gives Apple's apps a container and codec they decode directly, which is the whole point of this conversion.
Yes. The audio track is re-encoded to AAC, the standard codec for MOV files, so it stays in sync with the video and plays in QuickTime and editors. FLV files most often carry MP3 or AAC audio already, so this is a routine re-encode rather than a lossy detour through an unusual format.
Choose MOV if your destination is the Apple editing ecosystem — Final Cut Pro, iMovie, and QuickTime treat MOV as a first-class format. If you mainly want a file that plays everywhere (phones, browsers, smart TVs, Windows), convert FLV to MP4 instead; MP4 and MOV share the same underlying structure and the same H.264 video, but MP4 has wider device support.
In our testing, a 480p 60-second FLV at a typical web-streaming bitrate produced a roughly 6-8 MB MOV at the Very High preset — MOV with H.264 is reasonably efficient, but it is usually larger than the original Flash file because Flash was tuned for small streaming sizes. To cap the result, set File Compression to Specific file size during conversion, or run the finished MOV through the video compressor afterward.
