Supports: PEF
A PEF is a Pentax RAW still photo — minimally processed, high-bit-depth sensor data from a Pentax DSLR, not a viewable everyday image. 3GP is the small, low-resolution mobile-video container built for 3G phones. This converter wraps your single PEF photo into a short, silent 3GP clip that simply displays that one frame; it does not create an animation, and 3GP carries no audio when the source is a still image. If you instead want a viewable photo to keep or share, convert your PEF to a standard image with PEF to JPG or PEF to PNG.

This is an unusual target, and worth being clear about. A PEF holds far more tonal range than any 8-bit video frame can show, so the conversion demosaics the RAW data and reduces it to a standard 8-bit picture before encoding it. The result is a brief, silent 3GP video that displays that single image — useful only when a target device or player insists on the 3GP container. For almost any other purpose, a still-image format keeps more quality and is easier to view: try PEF to JPG for a small shareable photo or PEF to PNG for a lossless copy.
.pef file onto the page, or click "+ Add Files" to browse from your computer.No. A PEF is a single still photo with no audio track, so the resulting 3GP is a silent video clip. There is nothing to add a soundtrack to during a straight image-to-video conversion.
A PEF holds 12-bit or 14-bit RAW sensor data, while a 3GP video frame is 8-bit. The converter has to demosaic the RAW and compress its tonal range down to what video can store, so subtle highlight and shadow detail is reduced. If you need to preserve that latitude, edit the PEF in raw software first, or convert to a still image with PEF to PNG.
Usually not. 3GP is a low-resolution mobile-video container; a single photo is better kept as an image. Convert to PEF to JPG for a compact, widely supported photo, and only use 3GP when a specific older phone or player requires that container.
No. PEF is uploaded and decoded on our servers, so you do not need Lightroom, the Pentax Digital Camera Utility, or any desktop raw tool installed. You only need the .pef file itself.
By default the converter keeps your image's resolution, but you can pick a Fixed or Preset resolution in Advanced Options. Keep in mind that 3GP was designed for small mobile screens, and some legacy players expect dimensions like 176x144 or 352x288.
As long as you set under "Duration" — the default is 5 seconds per frame. Since the source is one still image, the entire clip shows that single frame for the chosen number of seconds.
Yes. Your PEF is uploaded over an encrypted connection, processed on our servers, and deleted automatically after a few hours. Files are never shared or made public, and there is no sign-up or watermark.
