3GPP (.3gpp) is the mobile-phone video container defined by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project — the same format as .3gp, holding a low-resolution clip recorded on an older or budget phone. MJPEG (Motion JPEG) is a very different beast: a video where every frame is stored as its own self-contained JPEG, with no compression between frames. This converter re-encodes your mobile clip into that frame-by-frame format, which is what editing, capture, and surveillance workflows expect. Because 3GPP is already low-resolution, the conversion cannot add detail it never had — and since MJPEG stores a full JPEG per frame, the output is usually much larger than the compact source.

A 3GPP clip is already low-resolution and lossily compressed, so MJPEG simply preserves what is there as independent JPEG frames. It cannot reconstruct detail the original recording never captured.
MJPEG has no inter-frame compression — every frame is a complete JPEG, even when very little changes between frames. 3GPP uses inter-frame codecs (H.263, MPEG-4, H.264) that only store the differences. In practice MJPEG reaches roughly a 1:20 compression ratio against the 1:50-or-better ratio of inter-frame codecs, so the output is expected to be several times bigger.
Yes. The 3GPP specification uses both .3gp and .3gpp for the same container; .3gp is simply the more common extension. You can upload either to this converter and treat them identically.
VLC, QuickTime, and FFmpeg-based players handle MJPEG, as do most camera, capture, and non-linear video-editing applications. General-purpose phone and web players are less reliable with it, which is one reason MJPEG is an editing and capture format rather than a sharing format.
If your goal is a clip that plays everywhere and stays small — for messaging, social, or web — MP4 with H.264 is the better target, not MJPEG. MJPEG only makes sense when a tool or workflow specifically needs per-frame JPEG access. For everyday playback use 3GPP to MP4 instead.
