Frequently Asked Questions
Will my DivX clip have sound?
No. A CRW file is a single still photograph with no audio track, so the resulting DivX video is silent. The converter shows your one image for the duration you choose and adds nothing on the audio channel.
Does the DivX output preserve the RAW's color depth and dynamic range?
No. CRW holds roughly 10-12 bits of linear sensor data with wide latitude, while DivX video is 8-bit. The conversion bakes the RAW down to standard 8-bit color, so the highlight and shadow headroom you would normally recover in a RAW editor is flattened into the final clip.
Should I convert CRW to DivX or to MP4 instead?
For anything you plan to share or play on modern devices, MP4 (H.264) is the better target — it is far more universally supported than DivX, which now mainly matters for older DivX-certified hardware. Use CRW to MP4 for a more universal clip, and choose DivX only when a specific legacy player requires it.
Why would anyone turn a Canon RAW photo into a video at all?
The common reasons are building a slideshow frame, feeding a still into a video-editing timeline that expects clips, or preparing an image for hardware that plays video but not RAW stills. In our testing, a single CRW set to a 5-second Image Duration produces a short fixed-length DivX clip of that one frame — useful as a timeline placeholder, not as a way to view the photo.
Is CRW the same as CR2 or CR3?
No. CRW is Canon's original CIFF-based RAW format from the late 1990s and early 2000s. Canon replaced it with the TIFF-based CR2 format from 2004 and later moved to CR3. CRW is the legacy format, which is why dedicated converters like this one still exist for it.
Are my files kept private?

What software plays a .divx file?
DivX-certified DVD and Blu-ray players and set-top boxes were built specifically to play DivX, and on the desktop VLC opens .divx and AVI files without extra codecs. The official DivX Player plays them too. Because DivX is MPEG-4 Part 2, many general-purpose media players handle it, but very old or locked-down devices may need the DivX certification logo to be sure.
How long will my DivX clip be?
The length comes from the Image Duration setting — how many seconds your single CRW photo is held on screen, from 1 to 10 seconds. Since the source is one still image, the whole clip simply shows that frame for the duration you pick; there is no motion to make it longer.
Is DivX the same as Xvid?
They are close relatives, not the same thing. Both implement the MPEG-4 Part 2 Advanced Simple Profile and grew out of the same early-2000s OpenDivX work, so files are broadly interchangeable. The difference is licensing: DivX is a commercial product, while Xvid is its open-source counterpart. A player that decodes one usually decodes the other.
