DivX is an MPEG-4 Part 2 (Advanced Simple Profile) video, usually wrapped in an AVI or .divx container. F4V is Adobe's later Flash video format — an ISO base media (MP4-family) container holding H.264 video and AAC audio, introduced with Flash Player 9 update 3 in 2007. This tool transcodes DivX to a valid F4V file. Before you commit, one honest caveat: F4V was built for the Flash Player runtime, and Adobe ended Flash Player support on December 31, 2020, then began blocking Flash content on January 12, 2021. If your goal is a file that plays everywhere today, convert DivX to MP4 instead — F4V already carries H.264, so MP4 gives you the same video stream with universal playback.

.f4v and nothing else..divx or .avi file onto the page, or click "Add Files" to browse. You can queue several clips and convert them with the same settings.Any format change re-encodes the video, so some generation loss is unavoidable. DivX is MPEG-4 Part 2, while F4V uses H.264, so the picture is fully re-compressed rather than copied. Keeping the Quality Preset at "Very High" minimizes visible loss; lowering it trades sharpness for a smaller file.
There is no modern browser playback path. Adobe ended Flash Player support on December 31, 2020, and browsers blocked Flash content from January 12, 2021. Desktop players built on FFmpeg (such as VLC) can still open F4V because it is an MP4-family container, but for anything you want to share or stream, MP4 is the safer target.
For almost every use case, yes. F4V and MP4 are both ISO base media containers and both carry H.264, so MP4 gives you the same video with playback on essentially every current device and browser. Only choose F4V if a specific legacy tool requires the .f4v extension. Use DivX to MP4 for the universal option.
The H.264 video inside the resulting F4V is the same codec MP4 would use — F4V's container is MP4-based. The practical difference is the wrapper and extension, not the video codec, which is why steering to MP4 costs you nothing in picture quality.
They come from the same MPEG-4 Part 2 codebase that split in 2001, so they are closely related implementations of the same codec family. A .divx or DivX-encoded AVI converts to F4V the same way an Xvid file would, since both decode as MPEG-4 ASP video.
