A .jfif file is a still photo — JPEG File Interchange Format is the same JPEG-compressed image data you'd find in a .jpg or .jpeg file, just with a different extension. MJPEG (Motion JPEG) is a video codec where every frame is stored as an independent JPEG. The usual reasons are workflow-specific: some capture cards, surveillance/editing pipelines, and older non-linear editors expect MJPEG because every frame decodes independently, which makes frame-accurate scrubbing and cutting simple. If your goal is to drop a still onto an MJPEG timeline or feed a device that only ingests MJPEG, wrapping the JFIF as a short MJPEG clip fits. For general sharing it is the wrong tool — the files are large and playback support is patchy.
MP4 (H.264) is the better target for anything you plan to send, upload, or post: it plays in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, phones, and social platforms, and it is far smaller than MJPEG for the same picture. Use convert JFIF to MP4 for a clip that plays widely, and reach for MJPEG only when a specific tool or device requires it.
