.odg is an OpenDocument Graphics drawing from LibreOffice Draw or Apache OpenOffice Draw — vector shapes, connectors, text boxes and embedded pictures on one or more drawing pages. "Video" here is not one format: this page hands you a Video File Extension selector with 32 containers behind it, from MP4 and MKV to legacy targets such as SWF, VOB and RM. What they all do is identical, and it is worth being blunt about it: our servers render the drawing to pixels, then hold each page as a silent, motionless frame for a duration you set. There is no animation and no audio, and the vectors stop being vectors the moment the page is rendered. Convert here when a destination genuinely demands a video file; if you just want a picture of the drawing, a still target is the better tool.

A note on the default state: nothing in this page's configuration marks a format as preselected, and the list is alphabetical, so 3G2 — a legacy mobile container with a small legal frame size — sits at the top. It is almost never what you want for a diagram. Choose your target explicitly before pressing Convert.

LibreOffice opens the .odg as a Draw document — the same component that created it — and exports it through Draw's own PDF filter rather than handing the file to an image decoder. The pages of that PDF are then rendered into frames and encoded into whichever container you picked. Two practical consequences: page count is preserved, so a four-page drawing becomes four held frames in one clip rather than a job that only sees page one; and because the render is print-grade, choosing a Video resolution such as 1920 x 1080 is normally a downscale, which keeps thin lines and small text crisp.
A static drawing gains nothing from a video codec except a fixed pixel grid, so reach for this page only when the destination is genuinely a video pipeline — a signage loop, a kiosk, a placeholder clip on an editing timeline, or an upload form that accepts video and rejects documents. If you simply want a shareable picture, ODG to PNG is the direct raster route. If you want the drawing to stay crisp at any size, do not rasterize at all: ODG to PDF and ODG to SVG both keep the geometry as geometry and the text as text.
There is no configured default, so do not rely on one. The selector is alphabetical and the first entry is 3G2 — a legacy mobile container with a small legal frame size, so a diagram sent through it will not look the way you expect. Open the Video File Extension group and pick MP4, or whichever container your destination actually asks for, before you press Convert.
Because the source is a static drawing. There is no motion to encode and no audio to carry, so the encoder renders each page and holds it for the Image Duration you selected — which is also why the Audio Codec group is hidden on this page. If you need narration or music, convert first, then add the audio track in a video editor.
Because the container constrains which codecs are legal. WebM takes VP8, VP9 or AV1; an MP4-family file takes H.264, H.265, MPEG-4 or Xvid; an MPEG program stream takes MPEG-1 or MPEG-2; RealMedia takes RV10 or RV20. The page only shows codecs once it knows which wrapper you want, which is why the group looks empty on arrival.
They become held frames rather than scenes: each page is rendered and shown in turn inside one clip, in page order, for the Image Duration you set, with no transitions. If you would rather have one file per page, save each page as its own .odg in LibreOffice Draw, upload them together and set Merge strategy to "Video per image".
Left alone it is the drawing's page rendered at 300 DPI — roughly 2480 x 3508 for A4, which is portrait and much larger than most players expect. To pin it, use Video resolution: the height presets set the height and let width follow the page's aspect, while Fixed Resolutions and Width x Height set both. Scaling down from the 300 DPI render is the sharp direction, so a deliberate 1080p choice usually looks better than "Keep original".
Only on the CRF codecs. Quality Preset scales meaningfully for H.264, H.265, VP9 and AV1. On MPEG-4, Xvid, DivX, WMV and the other codecs that take a plain 1–31 quality value, a still image gives it little to work with — there, Constant Quality is the control that bites, and lower values are better. On MPEG-2, quality requests are converted into a bitrate target altogether, so only the frame size really moves the output.
One still frame at 1 fps is close to the cheapest thing a modern codec can encode: a single keyframe followed by near-empty predicted frames, because every frame in a hold is identical. A few seconds of a simple diagram routinely lands in the low tens of kilobytes. That is normal rather than a failed conversion — if a picky ingest system wants a heavier file, raise the frame size or lower the Constant Quality value.
Your drawing is uploaded over an encrypted connection, rendered and encoded on our servers, and then deleted automatically a few hours later along with the video it produced. Nothing is shared, published or reused, there is no account to create, and the output carries no watermark. The ODG converter hub lists every other target available for the same source file.
