CR3 is Canon's third-generation camera raw format — a single, high-bit-depth still photo straight off the sensor. TS (MPEG Transport Stream) is a packetized video container built for broadcast and HLS streaming. Converting CR3 to TS wraps that one raw photo into a short, silent video clip that holds the image on screen, which is useful when you need a still to flow through a transport-stream or broadcast pipeline rather than be viewed as a photo.
This is a still-to-video conversion, not an animation: the output is one frame held for a set duration with no audio track. If you want a normal viewable picture instead, use Convert CR3 to JPG; if you want a widely playable clip to share, use Convert CR3 to MP4.

If your pipeline expects an audio track to be present, you will need to add one in a later step.
No. A CR3 holds 12 or 14-bit sensor data so you can recover highlights, shadows and white balance after the fact. The TS clip is a rendered, 8-bit video frame, so that wide latitude is baked in and gone. Do any raw adjustments before converting, or keep the original CR3 as your master and treat the TS as a delivery copy.
For TS output, frames are encoded with H.264, the codec most broadcast and HLS pipelines expect inside a transport stream. The 188-byte MPEG-2 transport packet structure is the container; H.264 is the video payload it carries.
The realistic reason is pipeline compatibility. If you are assembling an HLS playlist or feeding a broadcast/transport-stream workflow, every segment needs to be a .ts file. Turning a slate, title card or reference still into a short TS clip lets it append cleanly to those segments instead of being a stray image format the pipeline cannot ingest.
It is the "Image Duration" you set, multiplied per image. Hold one photo for, say, five seconds and the TS clip is about five seconds long. There is no motion in it — the same single frame is repeated for the whole duration.
Yes. The "Merge strategy" option controls this: "Merge images" combines all uploaded photos into a single TS video with each shown for the set duration, while "Video per image" produces a separate .ts file for each photo. For a slideshow-style segment, choose merge.
