It is a real encode on our servers, not a renamed image, and the container you choose decides the codec you end up with.
How to Convert JPG to Video

- Choose the Video File Extension: Pick the container you actually need from the output list — MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI, TS, MPEG2, WMV, OGV, MTS, MXF, SWF and about two dozen more. Your choice sets the codec automatically, and the Video Codec list becomes selectable once an extension is chosen.
- Set Image Duration, Background Color and Video resolution: Image Duration is the on-screen time per photo — 5 seconds per frame by default, adjustable from a single 1/60s frame up to 10 seconds. Background Color (white by default for image sources) fills any letterbox bars, and Video resolution keeps the original size or scales to a preset.

Which Extension to Pick — and the Codec You Get
The output list is a container list, not a codec list. Choosing an extension selects a matching codec for you; you can override it afterwards in Video Codec if the destination demands something specific.

Bitrate and target-file-size modes are not offered for image-to-video jobs — a single still has nothing meaningful to spread a bitrate budget across, so the page exposes Quality Preset, Constant Quality and Constraint Quality only.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will the video pan, zoom or animate my photo?
No. The converter holds one still frame for the length you set — there is no Ken Burns move, no transition and no motion of any kind. If you want something that visibly moves, you need an editor that can keyframe the image, or a different output entirely: an animated JPG to GIF loop if you have several frames to cycle through.
How long will the clip be, and can I get more than 10 seconds?
The clip length equals Image Duration × the number of images you upload with Merge strategy on "Merge images". A single photo at the 5-second default gives a 5-second clip, and 10 seconds per frame is the longest single-image option. To go beyond that, upload the same JPG several times — six copies at 10 seconds each produce a one-minute clip.
Which codec do I actually get for MP4, AVI or WebM?
MP4, MOV, MKV and TS are encoded with H.264; AVI uses MPEG-4 Part 2; WebM uses VP9; OGV uses VP8; WMV uses WMV 2; and MPEG2 uses MPEG-2. Once you have picked an extension, the Video Codec list unlocks the alternatives that container legitimately supports — for MP4 that means AV1, H.265, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, VP9 and Xvid alongside the H.264 default.
Why is there no audio in my video?
Because a JPG contains no sound and the page hides the audio controls entirely for image sources. When we audited this page's live option surface, the whole Audio Codec group is suppressed for image-to-video jobs — so the file is written with no audio track at all, rather than a track of silence. If a platform insists on an audio stream, add one in an editor after downloading.
There are coloured bars around my photo — how do I remove them?
That is the Background Color fill, which appears whenever your photo's aspect ratio does not match the frame size you asked for. It is white by default on image sources, so a portrait photo forced into a 1920 × 1080 frame gets white pillarbox bars. Either set Video resolution back to "Keep original", or change Background Color to something that blends with the image — black is the usual choice for photos.
The Quality Preset does not seem to change anything — why?
Because Quality Preset only steers codecs that use CRF-style rate control: H.264, H.265, VP8, VP9 and AV1. If you have chosen an Xvid, DivX, MPEG-4, MPEG-2, WMV or H.263 output, the preset has no effect on the encode. For those targets, switch File Compression to Constraint Quality and set a Max bitrate instead — that is the control that actually moves the needle.
Can I turn a folder of photos into one slideshow video?
Yes — upload them all and leave Merge strategy on "Merge images". Every photo is held for the same Image Duration and they play back to back in one file. Switching to "Video per image" gives you a separate video per photo instead. The stream is written at a low frame rate because nothing is moving, which players handle without complaint but which makes the clip a poor starting point for further editing.
Does the converter resize or re-compress my image before encoding?
Every uploaded image is normalised to PNG and capped at 4096 pixels on its long edge before it reaches the encoder, so an 8000-pixel-wide photo is scaled down to 4096 pixels wide. For anything destined for a screen this is invisible — 4096 px is above 4K width — but it does mean you cannot produce an 8K clip from a single very large photo on this page.
Is my photo stored or shared after conversion?
No. Your file is uploaded over an encrypted connection, processed on our servers, and deleted automatically after a few hours — no sign-up, no watermark, never shared or made public. If the resulting clip is bigger than a chat app or mail server will take, run it through the video compressor before sending it on.
