Convert MOBI to PDF Online

MOBI is the legacy Mobipocket/Kindle ebook format Amazon began retiring in 2022 in favour of EPUB, so a MOBI file no longer opens cleanly on modern readers, phones, or desktops. Converting it to PDF turns that reflowable ebook into a fixed-page, print-ready document that opens anywhere and is easy to annotate or share. Files are uploaded over an encrypted connection, processed on our servers, and deleted automatically after a few hours — no sign-up, no watermark, never shared or made public.

How to Convert MOBI to PDF

  1. Upload Your MOBI File: Drag and drop your .mobi file or click "+ Add Files" to select it from your device. Batch upload is supported — drop a whole shelf of ebooks and convert them in one pass.
  2. Choose a Compression Type: Leave it on Screen (Best) for the smallest on-screen PDF, pick Ebook for a balance of size and clarity, or choose Printer / Prepress when you plan to print the result at higher quality. Default is a middle-ground preset.
  3. Convert: Click Convert and the MOBI text and images are laid out onto sequential PDF pages.
  4. Download: Grab each PDF individually or as a ZIP. No sign-up, no watermark, no email gating.

MOBI vs PDF — What Changes in the Conversion

MOBI is reflowable (text rewraps to fit any screen); PDF is fixed-layout (every page is frozen at a set size). Converting trades adjustable text for a consistent, shareable, printable page. Know what you gain and lose before you convert:

Property MOBI (source) PDF (output)
Layout Reflowable — rewraps to screen/font size Fixed — pages frozen at a set size (A4 by default)
Origin Mobipocket SA, 2000; acquired by Amazon 2005 Adobe, 1993; open standard ISO 32000-1 since 2008
Status Legacy — Amazon switched Send-to-Kindle to EPUB Actively maintained — current spec is PDF 2.0 (ISO 32000-2:2020)
Resize / change font Yes, in the reader No — text size is baked into the page
Print fidelity Reader-dependent Page-accurate, the same on every printer
DRM Some MOBI files are DRM-encrypted Output PDF is DRM-free (DRM-locked input can't be converted)
Best for Reading on an e-ink Kindle Sharing, archiving, printing, annotating

If you mainly want to keep reading on a Kindle, Kobo, or phone, converting MOBI to EPUB preserves reflow instead of freezing the layout. Choose PDF when a fixed, printable page matters more than adjustable text.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I lose the reflowable text when I convert MOBI to PDF?

Yes — that is the fundamental tradeoff. MOBI stores text that rewraps to any screen or font size, while PDF freezes every page at a fixed size (A4 by default). After conversion you can't bump up the font in a reader the way you could in the original ebook; you zoom the whole page instead. If keeping adjustable text matters, convert MOBI to EPUB instead. Convert to PDF when you specifically want a fixed, printable, universally-viewable page.

Can I convert a DRM-protected MOBI file to PDF?

No. Some MOBI files purchased from Amazon or other stores are encrypted with DRM, which legally and technically prevents conversion — the converter can only read the text and images of a DRM-free file. If your MOBI is a personal export, a public-domain title, or a DRM-free purchase, it converts normally. If it's locked, the conversion will fail or produce an empty file.

Why doesn't my MOBI file open on my Kindle anymore?

Amazon announced in 2022 that it was moving Send-to-Kindle to EPUB, and phased out MOBI ingestion for new documents in late 2023, citing that MOBI "does not support the latest Kindle features." MOBI files already in your library still open, but you can no longer email new MOBI files to your Kindle. Converting to PDF (which every Kindle and Kindle app reads) or to EPUB (the current Send-to-Kindle format) restores access.

Will images and chapter formatting survive the conversion?

Embedded images carry over and are placed onto the PDF pages, and the running text flows in reading order. Because PDF is fixed-layout, the result is paginated rather than a single scrolling column, so exact line breaks, table positioning, and any interactive Kindle features won't match the original reader view. For a text-heavy novel this looks clean; for a heavily designed or image-led title, expect some reflow at page boundaries.

How large will the output PDF be, and what if it's too big to email?

In our testing, a typical text-only MOBI novel (a few hundred pages) converts to a PDF in the low single-digit megabytes on the Screen (Best) preset; image-heavy ebooks run larger. If the result is too big for an attachment — personal Gmail caps attachments at 25 MB, and Discord's free tier is 10 MB per file — run it through Compress PDF afterward, or re-convert using the Ebook compression type to trade a little image sharpness for a smaller file.
