An .odg is an OpenDocument Graphics drawing from LibreOffice Draw or Apache OpenOffice Draw — vector shapes, connectors and text frames held as XML inside a ZIP. AVCHD is the consumer camcorder format Sony and Panasonic introduced in 2006: H.264 video carried in an MPEG-2 transport stream, sized and structured so a camcorder could write it straight to disc or card and a Blu-ray player could read it back. Converting a drawing into one produces a silent clip that holds each rendered page as a still frame — useful when a camcorder-era editing project or a disc-authoring tool insists on AVCHD input, and useful for very little else.

The entire Draw document is read, so a multi-page file does not need splitting first.A .odg is a page-layout document, so the conversion runs through the office pipeline rather than an image converter: LibreOffice Draw's PDF export filter reads the drawing and writes a PDF that keeps the page geometry, each page is rendered to a raster at 300 DPI, and ffmpeg encodes those renders as held frames inside the AVCHD stream.
The consequence is that the native render size comes from the Draw page's physical dimensions, not from anything in the file:
AVCHD equipment, by contrast, expects landscape broadcast frames. If you leave "Video resolution" on "Keep original" and the drawing is a portrait page, the result is a very tall clip that a camcorder-era tool may simply refuse. Setting 1080p or 720p is the single most useful thing you can do on this page — and if the drawing is portrait, consider changing the page to a landscape size inside LibreOffice Draw before converting, so the render already matches the frame and no filler bars appear.

Neither on its own — it is a specification that pins down both. The video is H.264, the wrapper is an MPEG-2 transport stream, and the standard also fixes things like directory layout and stream structure so camcorders and players agree. That is why this page offers only one codec choice: substituting a different one would no longer be AVCHD.
Each page becomes a held frame in one clip, in page order. The office stage exports the whole document to PDF, every page is rendered, and the renders are assembled into a single slideshow. Nothing is dropped and no splitting is needed. If you would rather have one file per page, an image target such as ODG to JPG does that instead.
Because a drawing has no audio to encode. AVCHD itself carries Dolby Digital or linear PCM audio perfectly well in camcorder use; there is simply nothing in an .odg to fill that track. If the clip needs narration or music, add it in a video editor after conversion.
Often, but not always, and the frame size is usually the reason. AVCHD equipment expects standard broadcast resolutions and frame rates; a clip rendered at a portrait page size is valid H.264 but well outside what a player was designed to accept. Set "Video resolution" to 1080p or 720p before converting, and if a specific device still refuses the file, its own documentation will name the exact resolutions and frame rates it supports.
Only if the destination truly requires one. A motionless page inside a video container is a niche deliverable — the common reasons are a signage loop, a kiosk, or an editing timeline that needs a slate. For sharing or printing, ODG to PDF keeps the vectors intact; for a plain picture, an image target is smaller and more direct.
No. Video streams have no alpha channel, so anything transparent is composited onto an opaque background before encoding, and that same fill covers any bars left when the page's proportions do not match the frame. Choose ODG to PNG if the transparency is what matters.
No. Once the page is rendered to pixels, type is part of the picture — nothing in the clip can be selected, searched or restyled. Keep the .odg as your editable master; convert to PDF if you need a portable file whose text is still text.
No. The Draw document is read and rendered on our servers, so an .odg converts on any operating system with no office suite present. LibreOffice Draw is still the tool to install if the drawing is yours and you need to change it — it is free on Windows, macOS and Linux, and the AVCHD clip is a flattened copy that cannot be edited back into shapes.
