.odg is an OpenDocument Graphics drawing — LibreOffice Draw's editable shapes, connectors and text frames, stored as XML inside a ZIP package. .rmvb is RealMedia Variable Bitrate, a 2003 extension of RealNetworks' RealMedia container that wraps RealVideo essence and was built for storing films and TV episodes locally rather than streaming them. How to Convert ODG to RMVB

What "Variable Bitrate" Means for a Still Drawing

The name describes the format's original selling point: an encoder that spends more bits on complex scenes and fewer on simple ones, so a whole film fits in a small file. A drawing gives that machinery nothing to work with. Each page is rendered once, held for the Image Duration and emitted at 1 fps, so every frame within a hold is identical and the rate control has nothing to vary against. The output is small for the same reason any still-frame clip is small, not because of anything RMVB-specific.

That also means the useful decisions on this page are the frame size and the hold time, not the codec or the quality control. LibreOffice opens the .odg as a Draw document, exports it through Draw's own PDF filter, and each page is rendered at 300 DPI — so unless you set Video resolution, an old codec is being handed a print-grade raster it was never designed to see.

What still opens an RMVB file?

VLC and MPlayer handle it, and RealPlayer does where it is still installed. Windows Media Player, QuickTime, browsers and phone galleries do not — RealMedia never gained native support outside RealNetworks' own ecosystem. That asymmetry is worth weighing before you choose this target: almost nobody you send the file to will be able to open it without VLC.

Will the RMVB have any audio?

No. An ODG is a still drawing with nothing to encode, so the Audio Codec group does not render and the output carries a video stream only. RMVB would normally pair RealVideo with RealAudio; here there is simply no source audio to pair it with. Add a track in a video editor afterwards if something downstream requires one.

RM or RMVB — does it matter which I pick?

For a still drawing, barely. Both wrap the same RealVideo essence and both open in the same players; RMVB is the variable-bitrate variant that became the norm for stored content. Pick whichever extension the destination named. If it said .rm, ODG to RM writes that instead.

Why does my line art look soft?

Because RealVideo is a 1990s low-bitrate codec being asked to hold hard-edged artwork. It smooths exactly the fine detail a diagram depends on, and leaving Video resolution on "Keep original" makes it worse by handing the encoder an enormous frame. Choose a moderate resolution, thicken hairlines in Draw before converting, and expect softer edges than a modern codec would produce.

What happens to a multi-page Draw document?

Each drawing page becomes its own held frame inside the same file, in page order, shown for the Image Duration you set — three pages at the 5-second default give a 15-second clip. To get one file per page instead, save the pages as separate .odg files in LibreOffice Draw, upload them together and set Merge strategy to "Video per image".

Can I make the clip longer or shorter?

Yes, through Image Duration alone. The list runs from a 1/60-second single frame up to 10 seconds per page, and the clip's total length is that value multiplied by the number of pages. Frame rate does not enter into it: the encoder writes 1 fps because every frame within a hold is identical.

Is RMVB a sensible target for a diagram at all?

Rarely. It exists here for completeness and for people maintaining an archive that was built around the format. If your goal is a picture, ODG to PNG is direct and lossless; if it is a clip anyone can play, ODG to MP4 is the universal answer. Choose RMVB only when a legacy library or player leaves you no alternative.
