RM is RealNetworks' legacy RealMedia container from the streaming era — almost nothing on a modern computer or phone opens one cleanly anymore. TS is the MPEG transport stream, the broadcast-and-streaming container that powers DVB, ATSC, IPTV and HTTP Live Streaming. This converter rescues old .rm content into a transport stream you can feed into a broadcast or HLS pipeline. It is a re-encode, so it cannot add detail the original RealVideo recording never captured.

RealMedia is a proprietary format with no native browser or modern OS support, so most current players reject it. Converting to TS re-wraps the content into a standards-based MPEG transport stream that broadcast tools, IPTV servers and HLS packagers understand. For a file you just want to watch, MP4 is the easier target.
By default the transport stream carries H.264 video and AAC audio, which is the most widely supported combination for streaming and modern decoders. If your pipeline expects MPEG-2 (common in older DVB/broadcast gear), you can select MPEG-2 video in Advanced Options before converting.
This is a re-encode, not a lossless copy, so there is some generational loss — and re-encoding can never add detail the original RealVideo capture didn't have. Keeping the Quality Preset at "Very High" minimizes visible loss. In our testing, RM recordings converted to H.264 TS at the default preset held their original sharpness with no obvious new artifacts at typical bitrates.
It depends on the use. Choose TS when you are feeding an HLS segmenter, an IPTV server, or broadcast ingest that expects a transport stream. Choose MP4 (H.264) for ordinary playback, sharing, or editing — it is smaller, seekable, and universally supported. Both start from the same .rm source.
The transport stream format uses fixed 188-byte packets with built-in synchronization and error correction, which was engineered for lossy terrestrial and satellite transmission. HLS historically delivered video as .ts segments listed in an .m3u8 playlist; Apple added fragmented MP4 as an alternative in 2016, but TS segments are still widely used.
Yes. Add multiple .rm files to the queue and they are converted with the same codec and quality settings. The realistic limit is upload size and time rather than your device — large legacy recordings simply take longer to upload before processing begins.
VLC plays a transport stream directly on Windows, macOS, and Linux, and ffmpeg-based tools read it too, so a .ts file is easy to inspect or re-wrap. Broadcast and streaming software — IPTV servers, HLS segmenters, and DVB/ATSC ingest tools — accept it natively, which is the whole point of the format. Ordinary phones and web browsers, however, do not treat a raw .ts as a first-class video; for casual playback, convert TS to MP4 gives you a seekable file that plays everywhere.
