This tool renders a Hasselblad 3FR RAW photo and encodes it as an HEVC (H.265) video — a short, silent clip that holds one static frame for a length you choose, not an animation. It is a niche pairing: a 3FR is a single very-high-resolution medium-format still, and HEVC is a modern video codec, so a bare .hevc is an unusual target for one photograph. If you just want a viewable picture, use 3FR to JPG; if you need the still as a clip that plays widely, 3FR to MP4 is the safer choice, because H.265 playback is conditional on the viewer's hardware. Choose HEVC here only when a video pipeline specifically ingests H.265.

Just the photo held on screen, with no sound. A 3FR is a single still, so a one-file conversion produces a freeze-frame — the rendered image displayed for the Duration you set, with no panning or movement. Because a still photo carries no audio, the converter hides the audio codec entirely and writes a silent stream; there is nothing in one photo to fill an audio track. To build a moving sequence, choose Merge images under Merge strategy and upload several 3FR files, and they are strung into a slideshow, one per Duration interval.
No — H.265 playback is conditional. A bare .hevc is a raw HEVC (Annex B) elementary stream rather than a friendly container, so many players reject it; VLC handles raw streams across platforms. Native support is uneven too: Safari decodes HEVC from version 11, Chrome 107+ and Edge play it only when the operating system and GPU provide an H.265 decoder, and Firefox does not decode it by default. If broad compatibility matters, convert 3FR to MP4 for H.264, or remux later with HEVC to MP4.
Yes, substantially, and it is inherent to the conversion rather than a tool flaw. A 3FR holds 14- or 16-bit sensor data that must be demosaiced to become viewable, and that render bakes in white balance, exposure, and tone — the RAW latitude is gone. A medium-format frame from a 100 MP body (around 11,656 × 8,742 pixels) is then scaled down to an SD-to-1080p video frame, discarding the overwhelming majority of the resolution. Keep the master 3FR; the HEVC is a delivery file, not an archive.
Yes — HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) and H.265 are two names for the same standard, ratified in January 2013 by the joint MPEG and ITU-T team and targeting roughly half the file size of H.264 at the same visual quality. For a single photo the usual reasons to choose it are building an H.265 still segment for a video timeline or matching a pipeline that ingests H.265 clips. Note that HEVC carries patent-licensing obligations, which is one reason the royalty-free AV1 codec emerged as a competitor. In our testing, a high-megapixel 3FR at the Very High preset produced a short, silent .hevc that played in VLC but not in a default Firefox install.
