.3fr is Hasselblad's 3F RAW — the undeveloped file its medium-format bodies and digital backs write, built on a TIFF-like structure with camera-specific tags that general-purpose viewers do not understand. It is meant to be opened in Phocus, Lightroom, Camera Raw or Capture One and developed, not double-clicked.
.jfif is a JPEG. Same baseline DCT data as a .jpg, same markers, different four characters after the dot. You land on this page when something in a workflow — an asset importer, a submission portal, a records system — asks for that extension by name and will not take .jpg. This converter develops the raw and writes the result out under the name you were asked for.
Turning sensor data into a JPEG is a one-way step. It is worth knowing exactly what you are trading before you run it on a shoot.

The resolution row is worth pausing on. Some conversions on this site clamp large images before encoding, but that clamp belongs to the video pipeline; an image-to-image conversion like this one does not touch dimensions at all. On Keep original, a 100-megapixel capture produces a 100-megapixel JPEG.

The Highest rung costs three and a quarter times the Very High file for a difference nobody can see on a photograph — that is JPEG's well-known behaviour as quality approaches its ceiling, where the encoder starts spending enormous numbers of bits encoding its own rounding noise. Very High is the right default and High is a genuinely good delivery setting. Medium is where the encoder stops storing colour at full resolution, which is invisible on most photographic content and ugly on saturated edges.
If you need an archival copy rather than a delivery copy, JPEG at any rung is the wrong tool — 3FR to TIFF gives you a lossless render, and the .3fr itself remains the only file that can be reinterpreted later.
No. JFIF is the interchange convention that describes how JPEG-compressed data is packaged for exchange, and virtually every .jpg in the world already follows it. What this page writes is a baseline JPEG: the extension is the only difference. If a program refuses the file, renaming it to .jpg is a complete fix, and JFIF to JPG will do the rename properly if you would rather not touch the filename by hand.
Not exactly. A .3fr carries a Hasselblad colour profile tied to the individual camera, and Phocus applies that profile as part of its own render. This converter develops the raw with its own defaults, so colours can drift — usually slightly, sometimes visibly under mixed lighting. For colour-critical work the dependable route is to finish the file in Phocus or Capture One, export a JPEG or TIFF, and convert that export if you need the .jfif extension specifically.
Yes, on Keep original, which is what the page opens on. Nothing downscales an image-to-image conversion — a 100-megapixel capture yields a 100-megapixel JPEG. That is often not what you want: the resulting file is large, slow to open and far beyond what a web page or a client preview needs. Use Preset Resolutions or Resolution Percentage to bring it down deliberately rather than shipping a full-sensor JPEG by accident.
High, or Very High if the images will be examined closely. Both keep full-resolution colour, and the step from Very High down to High saves roughly a third of the file for no visible change on photographic content. Skip Highest entirely unless someone has specifically asked for a maximum-quality JPEG — it more than triples the size to encode detail that is not visually there.
Yes. Switch Image Compression to Specific file size, enter the ceiling, and leave Auto Scale on so the encoder is allowed to reduce dimensions as well as quality to reach it. On a medium-format frame that matters — hitting a 2 MB target on a 51-megapixel image by quality alone would require a rung so low the picture falls apart, whereas reducing the pixel dimensions first gets there cleanly.
Standard capture fields — camera, lens, shutter, aperture, ISO, date — travel into the JPEG. What cannot travel is anything that only exists as raw: the undemosaiced sensor data itself and Hasselblad's maker-note block, which holds camera-specific settings a third-party renderer has no way to reconstruct from a finished image. Keywords and copyright are safest re-applied in your cataloguing software after export.
Check that the extension really is .3fr and that the file copied off the card completely. This page is tuned for the .3fr extension specifically, so a renamed file, a .fff from a Hasselblad workflow, or another manufacturer's raw will not go through here. A truncated capture — a copy interrupted partway — fails at the develop step rather than producing a partial image.
No. JPEG has no alpha channel of any kind, and a camera capture has no transparency to preserve in any case. If you need a cut-out you will have to remove the background in an editor afterwards, or work from 3FR to PNG, which does carry an alpha channel for whatever you do to it later.
Always. The JFIF is a delivery copy of one interpretation of the capture — one white balance, one exposure, one tone curve, at 8 bits per channel. The .3fr is the only file that still holds the sensor data, and it is the only one you can go back to when a client wants the shot warmer, the highlights pulled back or a different crop. Treat the conversion as an export, never a replacement.
