DivX is an MPEG-4 Part 2 (ASP) video codec, usually wrapped in an AVI container with MP3 audio — a format built for the DVD-ripping era. OGV is the Ogg video container, a royalty-free format associated with the open web. This converter re-encodes a DivX file into OGV, defaulting to VP8 video with Vorbis audio. Because it is a full re-encode, expect some generation loss, and read the format notes below before choosing OGV as your target.

You can queue several files and convert them with the same settings.If your goal is reliable playback rather than a royalty-free archive, DivX to WebM or DivX to MP4 will play in current browsers and on phones, which OGV no longer does.
Barely. Theora — the classic Ogg video codec — was disabled by default in Chrome at version 120 and removed from Chromium at 123, was disabled by default in Firefox at version 126, and Safari has never supported it. According to caniuse.com, Ogg/Theora now scores in the single digits for cross-browser support. If you need a file that plays in today's browsers, convert DivX to WebM or MP4 instead; reserve OGV for archives or platforms that explicitly require an Ogg file.
VP8 is a newer royalty-free codec than Theora and generally produces better quality at the same bitrate, so it is the default for our OGV output, paired with Vorbis audio. Note that the standard home for VP8 is the WebM container — VP8-in-Ogg is unusual and not what browsers expect. If a specific tool or platform demands Ogg Theora, switch the Video Codec to Theora in Advanced Options before converting.
Yes, some. DivX (MPEG-4 ASP) is already a lossy compressed format, and re-encoding to VP8 or Theora is a second lossy pass, so fine detail and motion can soften slightly. Choosing a higher Quality Preset reduces the loss but enlarges the file. There is no lossless path between two different lossy codecs — the original DivX data cannot be recovered, only re-compressed.
You can — Wikimedia Commons accepts Ogg Theora because it is royalty-free and patent-unencumbered. That said, Commons today prefers WebM, which is also royalty-free and has far better quality and tooling. Unless a project specifically asks for an Ogg file, WebM is the stronger choice for open-format uploads.
VLC media player plays OGV on Windows, macOS, and Linux, as do MPV and most open-source players. Native browser playback is mostly gone (see the browser-support note above), and Apple's QuickTime and the macOS Photos/Finder previews do not handle Ogg video. If you need something that "just opens" everywhere, MP4 with H.264 is the safer container.

Yes. Leave "Video resolution" on its original value and the converter preserves the DivX file's frame dimensions and frame rate, re-encoding only the codec. Reach for a Preset Resolution or a resolution percentage to downscale only when you want a smaller file or need to match a target display — upscaling a standard-definition DivX rip cannot add detail the source never captured.
Three controls move the size. Lower the Quality Preset from "Very High" to trade some detail for a smaller file, downscale the frame with "Video resolution," or switch to "Specific file size" and enter a target so the encoder aims for it directly. Because both DivX and VP8 are already lossy, pushing the size down too far softens motion and fine detail, so reduce it gradually and check the result.
