How to Convert EPS to ICO

Why does my EPS look blurry as an ICO?
EPS is vector, so it stays sharp at any size; an .ico is a fixed-size raster, so the conversion rasterizes the artwork to a set pixel grid. If a 256×256 icon looks soft, that is the fixed 72-DPI rasterization this path uses — there is no render-DPI control here — so start from a clean, square version of the logo drawn large in the EPS itself. Tiny 16×16 favicons will always lose fine detail — that is a limit of the size, not the conversion.
Can I make a favicon from my EPS logo?
Yes. Export at 32×32 (the size browsers most often request) or 256P for a sharp result on high-DPI screens, then reference the .ico from your site's <head>. Because EPS is vector line art, it traces to a crisp favicon far better than a downscaled photo would.
Does the output ICO keep a transparent background?
It can. The ICO format supports 32-bit RGBA transparency, so a logo on a transparent EPS background can stay transparent. If your EPS has no alpha channel, the converter fills the background with a solid color rather than leaving it empty.
What's the largest icon size I can get?
256×256 pixels. That is the maximum a single image inside an .ico can be — anything larger is outside the format's spec. For artwork bigger than an icon, convert your EPS to PNG instead.
Is EPS still a current format?
It is legacy. EPS dates to 1987 and is still readable by design and print tools, but Microsoft turned off inserting EPS images in Office by default in April 2017 and removed the workaround for Microsoft 365 and Office 2019 subscribers in May 2018, citing the security risk of EPS's embedded scripts. Converting an old EPS logo to a modern icon or PNG keeps it usable.
How sharp is the result in practice?
In our testing, a flat single-color vector logo in EPS rendered at 256P produces a clean, crisp icon with smooth edges; intricate artwork with thin lines or gradients softens noticeably below 48×48, so simplify the design for the smallest sizes.
Should I use an ICO or a PNG favicon?
Use ICO when you want the widest compatibility, including older Internet Explorer versions and the Windows shell, which expect a .ico at a site's root. Modern browsers also accept PNG and SVG favicons declared in the page <head>, and those are simpler to produce at a single size. A common setup is an .ico for legacy support plus a larger PNG for high-DPI screens. Because your source is vector EPS, you can render whichever size each target needs without quality loss.
My EPS is a CMYK print file — will the icon colors match?
They may shift slightly. EPS artwork made for print is often defined in CMYK, while icons and screens use RGB, so the conversion maps CMYK colors into RGB. Most flat logo colors translate closely, but very saturated blues, greens, and oranges can look a little different on screen than in print. If exact brand color matters, check the result and, if needed, set the source to your brand's RGB screen values before converting.
Rendering the icon at a higher DPI first and then downscaling also helps keep saturated colors and thin strokes clean at small sizes.
