How to Convert EPS to MPG

Frequently Asked Questions
Will the EPS to MPG video have sound?
No. An EPS file is a static graphic with no audio track, so the resulting MPG is a silent clip. If you need a soundtrack, convert the still to a video first and then add audio in a separate editing step.
Why does my crisp EPS look soft or pixelated in the MPG?
EPS is vector art that scales infinitely, but MPG stores fixed pixels. Converting flattens (rasterizes) the artwork at the chosen resolution, so set "Video resolution" to at least the dimensions you need and keep the quality Preset high to minimize MPEG-2 compression softening on fine lines and text.
How long will the output clip be?
It runs for the "Image Duration" you pick — anywhere from a single frame to 10 seconds per image. With multiple EPS files merged into one video, total length is the sum of each image's duration.
Should I really convert EPS to a video at all?
Often not. If your goal is just to view, share, or print the artwork, EPS to PNG or PDF is the right move, and SVG keeps it editable as vector. Choose MPG only when the still genuinely needs to sit on a video timeline or play on a legacy MPEG device.
Why MPG instead of MP4 for a still image?
MPG (MPEG-2) maximizes compatibility with older DVD-era and broadcast hardware. For modern phones, web pages, and most editors, MP4 (H.264) gives smaller files at the same quality — convert EPS to MP4 for that.
Which MPEG version does the .mpg output use — MPEG-1 or MPEG-2?
MPEG-2 (H.262) inside an MPEG program stream, which is the DVD-era and broadcast standard and the most broadly compatible choice for legacy players. Because the EPS source has no audio, no audio codec is applied and the clip is silent.
Does MPG carry my EPS's transparent background?
No. MPEG video has no alpha channel, so transparent areas are filled with the Background Color (default White). If your artwork was drawn on transparency, keep the White default or set a brand color so the graphic doesn't sit on a clashing fill.
What plays a .mpg file once it's converted?
MPEG-2 program streams open on a wide range of software and hardware:
- Desktop players such as VLC and Windows Media Player.
- DVD players and DVD recorders, since MPEG-2 was the DVD-Video standard.
- Broadcast and digital-signage hardware built around DVB/ATSC.
Current web browsers do not decode MPEG program streams natively, so for web embedding convert to MP4 instead.
