If the .mpeg is truncated, partially downloaded, or carries a damaged stream, the decoder may fail to seek to your timestamp or return a corrupt picture — repair or re-download the source first. If you need a pixel-exact copy of the frame with no JPEG re-compression at all, JFIF is the wrong target; grab it as a lossless MPEG to PNG instead. And if you actually want the full sequence of frames as separate files, "Multiple Screenshots" is the tool, not a single conversion.
It extracts a single frame. The output is one still picture, not an animation or a montage of every frame. By default the grab is taken at time 0, the opening frame; set "Time (seconds)" to capture any other moment, or switch to "Multiple Screenshots" to get several stills at once. To turn an MPEG into an animated image instead, use MPEG to GIF.
Yes — same image format, different extension. JFIF (JPEG File Interchange Format, version 1.02 published September 1, 1992 by Eric Hamilton at C-Cube Microsystems, later formalized as ITU-T T.871 and ISO/IEC 10918-5) defines how baseline JPEG data is wrapped. A .jfif, .jpg, .jpeg, .jpe, and .jfi all carry identical JPEG-compressed bytes under the image/jpeg MIME type. Chrome and Edge began saving downloaded JPEGs with the .jfif extension around 2018, which is why many people first run into it. If you only need the rename, JFIF to JPG does exactly that.
Some, yes. JFIF stores baseline JPEG, which is lossy 8-bit-per-channel compression, so encoding the frame re-quantizes it. The source MPEG is itself a lossy codec (usually MPEG-1, ISO/IEC 11172, standardized in 1993), so the decoded frame already carries compression artifacts before JPEG is applied. Keep "Quality Preset" at Very High to minimize added loss. For a frame with no JPEG compression at all, use MPEG to PNG.
It matches the source video frame unless you scale it down. MPEG-1 clips are typically standard-definition — often around 352x240 (NTSC Video CD) or 352x288 (PAL) — though an .mpeg file can hold larger frames. Use "Resolution Percentage", "Width", or "Height" to shrink the still; aspect ratio is preserved automatically. The tool cannot add detail that was never in the original frame.
No. JFIF is an image format and stores no audio. Only the visual content of the selected frame is saved; the MPEG's audio track is discarded during conversion.

There is no account, no sign-up, and no watermark, and files are never shared or made public. In our testing, a 352x288 PAL MPEG grabbed at the Very High preset produced a sharp still around 25-60 KB, depending on scene detail.
