Does cropping an EPS keep my vector paths sharp?

Yes. Vector path data in an EPS is stored as PostScript drawing operators — moveto, lineto, curveto, fills, strokes — not as pixels. Cropping changes which region the file declares as visible (the %%BoundingBox) and clips paths that fall outside; it does not resample or rasterize the geometry that remains. A cropped logo prints as crisply as the original at any size.

What actually changes inside the EPS file when I crop?

Two things. First, the %%BoundingBox header line near the top of the file is rewritten to the new rectangle, so InDesign, QuarkXPress, LaTeX, and any PostScript RIP know the new extent. Second, drawing operators outside the new rectangle are clipped — either physically removed or wrapped in a PostScript clip path so they do not render. Embedded raster images are re-encoded with the chosen quality preset so the file stays compact.

Can I crop to exact pixel dimensions, or only by dragging?

Both. Drag the crop handles for a quick visual selection, or enter exact width, height, and X/Y position for pixel-perfect framing. Exact dimensions are the right call when you need every cropped EPS in a brand pack to be identical — for example trimming all 50 product icons to the same 512x512 region.

My EPS came from MATLAB or Gnuplot with a huge bounding box around a small plot. Will cropping fix it?

Yes — that's one of the most common reasons to crop EPS. Scientific plotting libraries often write the bounding box at the full PostScript page (612x792 points for letter) even when the figure occupies a small area. Cropping to the figure's actual edges means LaTeX \includegraphics places it without leftover margins and without needing trim= or clip= overrides.

Will the cropped EPS still open in Illustrator, InDesign, and Inkscape?

Yes. The output conforms to Adobe's DSC (Document Structuring Conventions) and a valid %%BoundingBox header, which is what every PostScript-aware tool reads. Illustrator, InDesign, QuarkXPress, CorelDRAW, Affinity Designer, Inkscape, Ghostscript, and Preview on macOS all open the cropped file the same as the original.

Should I crop as EPS or convert to a different format first?

Depends on the destination. For prepress, journal submissions (IEEE, Elsevier, Springer), and InDesign placement, keep EPS. For web embedding, EPS to SVG gives you a vector format browsers render natively. For screen-only delivery, EPS to PDF produces a smaller file with the same vectors. For raster thumbnails, flatten with EPS to PNG or EPS to JPG at the DPI you need.

Can I batch-crop many EPS files to the same dimensions?
