This tool wraps a still picture inside an .m2ts file — the Blu-ray and AVCHD spelling of the BDAV MPEG-2 transport stream. The output is one motionless frame held on screen for a duration you choose: it is silent, and it does not animate the picture. The honest reason to make one is to slot a still — a title slate, a logo, a chapter card, a photograph — into a Blu-ray-authoring or AVCHD-era editing pipeline that only ingests transport-stream clips. It accepts roughly three dozen image formats, from everyday JPG and PNG to camera RAW. For a smaller, far more widely playable still-as-video, use Image to MP4; the camcorder-spelled twin lives at Image to MTS.

No. Each picture becomes one still frame held for the duration you set, so a single image plays as a frozen clip rather than moving. If you upload several photos and choose "Merge images" under Merge strategy, they are joined back to back — each shown in turn for its set duration — which is a sequence of stills, not a cross-faded slideshow with transitions. For true animation you need a moving source such as a GIF or an existing video, not a still.
M2TS is the BDAV MPEG-2 transport stream — the container Blu-ray Discs and AVCHD camcorders use to carry high-definition video, defined as a modification of the MPEG-2 transport stream specification (ITU-T H.222.0 / ISO/IEC 13818-1) for random-access media. You would wrap a still in one only when a Blu-ray-authoring or AVCHD-era editing tool refuses to import a plain image and insists on a transport-stream clip — for instance, adding a title card, logo slate, or photo to a disc project. For any other purpose, a still in MP4 is smaller and plays far more widely.
They carry the same encoded video, but they are not the same file. Written here, .m2ts is BDAV-framed in 192-byte packets that each add a 4-byte timestamp header ahead of the 0x47 sync byte, while Image to MTS writes plain 188-byte packets beginning with that sync byte — which also makes the .m2ts slightly larger for identical content. Renaming a file does not re-packetize it, so convert to the spelling your Blu-ray or AVCHD tool actually expects, and pick M2TS only when one of them asks for it. For phones, browsers, TVs, and ordinary editors, Image to MP4 carries the same H.264 video in a smaller, much more widely supported file.
Converting a still image carries no sound, because a photograph has no audio track to encode, so the resulting .m2ts is silent by design. The M2TS/BDAV spec itself supports Dolby Digital (AC-3), DTS, and linear PCM audio, but there is nothing to put in those streams when the source is a picture. To add music or narration, convert here first and then bring the clip into a video editor (DaVinci Resolve, Shotcut, CapCut) to layer in a soundtrack.
Leave it on the H.264 (MPEG-4 AVC) default. H.264 is one of the three codecs the Blu-ray BDAV spec mandates — alongside MPEG-2 and SMPTE VC-1 — so it imports most cleanly into Blu-ray and AVCHD authoring tools and plays on the widest range of older hardware. H.265 makes a smaller file but is not part of the Blu-ray/AVCHD spec and is commonly rejected by those tools; MPEG-2 exists mainly for legacy standard-definition transport-stream pipelines. In our testing, a single still encoded to H.264 imported into an AVCHD authoring template without a re-transcode, while the H.265 version was refused.
Yes. RAW files — Canon CR2/CR3, Nikon NEF, Sony ARW, Adobe DNG, Fujifilm RAF, and others — are first rendered to a standard viewable frame on our servers, applying white balance and exposure the way a RAW developer would, and that rendered frame is what gets held in the .m2ts clip. The result is a normal 8-bit video frame, not a raw sensor readout, because transport-stream video has no concept of undeveloped RAW data. If you want a consistent frame size first, resize the image before converting.
Just the stream. You get a bare .m2ts transport-stream file — the payload that lives inside a Blu-ray or AVCHD structure — not the full BDMV/AVCHD folder tree, playlists, and disc image a set-top player expects. To make an actual playable disc, import this .m2ts into Blu-ray or AVCHD authoring software, which builds the required folder structure and menus around your clip.
The MPEG-2 transport-stream container carries extra packetization overhead — it was designed for reliable broadcast and disc delivery, splitting the video into fixed-size packets with their own headers — so it is bulkier than MP4's streamlined file structure even when both hold the same H.264 frame. If small size matters more than Blu-ray/AVCHD compatibility, Image to MP4 packs the same video into a smaller file.
