RM (RealMedia) is RealNetworks' legacy streaming container from the RealPlayer era, holding RealVideo and RealAudio tracks that almost nothing modern plays. OGA is the audio-only Ogg container, which on this tool holds Vorbis — an open, royalty-free codec. This conversion pulls the audio out of the RM file and re-encodes it to Ogg/Vorbis; any video track is discarded, so the output is sound only.

You can queue several files and convert them with the same settings.The RealAudio inside an RM file is already lossy, and Vorbis is also lossy, so this is a lossy-to-lossy re-encode — it cannot recover detail the original RealAudio threw away. The good news is that Vorbis is efficient: at a sensible bitrate (roughly 128–192 kbit/s and up) the re-encode is usually transparent, meaning you would struggle to hear a difference from the RM source. To minimize generational loss, keep the bitrate at or above the original RealAudio stream and avoid resampling unless you need to.
Both are the Ogg container. Since RFC 5334 (2008), the Xiph.Org Foundation recommends .oga for audio-only Ogg files and reserves .ogg for Vorbis specifically, with .ogv for video. The bytes inside a .oga Vorbis file are the same as the equivalent .ogg — the extension is mostly a labeling convention, and most players accept either.
OGA (Vorbis) is open and royalty-free and plays in every current major browser and most open-source software, but support is thinner in some older or Apple-centric desktop apps. If you need a file that opens everywhere with no thought, convert RM to MP3 instead — MP3 has the widest device support. Pick OGA when you want smaller files at equal quality or a license-free format for the web.
OGA is an audio-only container, so this tool extracts just the audio track from the RM file and discards the RealVideo stream. If you want to keep the picture, convert the RM to a video format such as MP4 instead of an audio format.
Yes. Choose Custom Bitrate in Advanced Options and set it to match (or exceed) the RM file's RealAudio bitrate, or leave the Quality Preset on a high setting. Encoding above the source bitrate will not add quality, but it avoids throwing any away in the re-encode.
Usually, yes. Vorbis tends to be more efficient than older RealAudio at the same perceived quality, so lowering the bitrate or using a lower Quality Preset produces a smaller file. You can also set a Specific file size target and let the encoder choose the bitrate to fit.

Yes. Vorbis is a fully open, patent-and-royalty-free codec maintained by Xiph.Org, with its bitstream format frozen in 2000. In our testing, a typical RM voice recording re-encoded to Vorbis at 128 kbit/s sounds indistinguishable from the source while taking up less space.
